Edith Vallena

Activities and Travel Coordinator

Edith Vallena is the Activities and Travel Coordinator for SOSA. Born in the Philippines, she graduated from the Philippine College of Commerce with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Marketing. She worked in the Court of First Instance in Pasig as Court  Stenographer. 

In 1977, she immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where she married, blessed with two children and later two grandchildren. She worked in Manulife Financial Services as Customer Service Rep and in 1989, she moved  to Toronto Hydro Electric System, in Legal and Communications Department as an Administrative Assistant. There, she was responsible for planning corporate events and supporting senior managers. She also worked part-time for the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) as a Medical Report Translator using dictaphone.

In 2014, she finally retired and assumed the role of a “Treasurer“ with the Toronto Hydro Retirement Club. As Treasurer, she attended quarterly meetings, updated financial reports and coordinated yearly Christmas dinners to over 2,000 retired members.
 
Edith’s love for dance and music led to her increasing involvement with Toronto’s Filipino community, where she later started her own DJ Sound System Business. For 15 years, She provided vibrant music to various events held within the Filipino community. In addition to her in-depth involvement, she is also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 345), the Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario (MROO) and the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
 
As the travel coordinator for SOSA, she believes in the profound joy of travelling with seniors. Her passion for her community leads her to plan exciting trips to various places both locally and internationally. Through her work, Edith hopes to build strong member relations through laughter and memories.
