Julio Sison


Julio Fernandez Sison was born and baptized on  March 6, 1939 in Binalonan, Pangasinan, a small town located 100km south of Manila, Philippines. Julio currently serves as the Vice President of SOSA and has held this position for the past nine years. Julio actively participates in SOSA’s Choral Group and Rondalla/Ukulele Ensembles.

In the Philippines, Julio graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked with the Manila Electric Company for four years. Afterwards, Julio went to Vietnam as a contract worker specializing in power plants for the United States Army. For eight years, Julio worked in Vietnam, where he met his beloved wife Nhan Nguyen. 
On October 28th, 1973, Julio and his wife immigrated to Canada. Julio furthered his education at George Brown College and obtained a diploma in Stationary Engineering. Julio then worked at the Royal Bank of Canada for 23 years and retired as a Maintenance Technician specialized in HVAC. 

Julio is greatly involved in his community in Toronto and back home in the Philippines. Julio is an active member of the Knights of Columbus council 7689 at St. Patrick Parish Church in Markham.
In 1995 Julio organized the Binalonian Community Association of Ontario (BCAO) and was elected as the President of BCAO until now. Julio stays connected with his hometown and is deeply involved in providing support to his kapatids back home. In 2005, BCAO built two elementary schools in Binalonan. In 2008 and 2015, BCAO also provided medical and dental care to over 300 people in Binalonan. BCAO also provided rice, food and clothing to the poor people affected by Philippine’s most detrimental Super Typhoon Yolanda Haiyan in 2015.

Julio has resided in Scarborough, Ontario for 32 years. Though he now enjoys his retirement in Markham, Julio is deeply connected to SOSA and has been with the organization since its inception in 2008. Julio has three grown-up children and has been blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren.
