Elvira F. Garcia (Elvie) is the current Treasurer at SOSA, where she manages the financial affairs of the organization, is responsible for reconciling bank statements and generating financial reports. She ensures that any remittance to Revenue Canada is submitted and paid on time. In addition, Elvie is in charge of banking, book-keeping, record-keeping and handling cash flow at SOSA.
Elvie was born in Bicol province from the town of Prieto-Diaz, Sorsogon City in the Philippines. Elvie obtained a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration - Major in Accounting at the Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA). Before migrating to Canada, Elvie worked at the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (PT&T) for almost 10 years as a Senior Supervisor “Plant Accounting” to Plant Accountant.
Elvie also served as General Accountant at a Consulting Clinic in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She then resumed a position at the King Khalid National Guard Hospital as an Accountant. Finally, Elvie moved to King Fahad National Guard Hospital (KFH) from Accounts Payable Administrator to A/P Auditor.
Upon coming to Canada, Elvie graduated in Accounting at George Brown College. She worked for 15 years at Jones Apparel Group of Canada (JNY) from Accounts Receivable Department to Accounts Payable and Payroll Department. Currently, Elvie works at Dart Canada as an Accounting Administrator – overseeing Accounts Payable and Payroll.
Though Elvie is away from her home land, this does not stop her from connecting with other Filipinos here in Canada. Elvie is a proud member of the Philippine Heritage Band (PHB) as Assistant Treasurer, Church choir, and SOSA. Elvie takes great pride, joy and honour of passing along her Filipino culture to her children. In her spare time, Elvie enjoys listening and playing music, which she inherited from her father, who was a music teacher.
